Last Update   12/22/04

Little J has been in the studio in Dallas with Butch Bonner producing.  12/22

Denny Freeman is back in town and doing an every Wednesday show at 8 pm at Deep Ellum Blues.  I've been to a couple and it's hot stuff.  Michael J Dahoney on drums and vocals, and Jim Milan on bass.  That's about 100 years of experience onstage for no cover charge.  12/8

Hot guitarist Joel Foy has recently relocated to Big D.  His guitar credits include a who's who of the West Coast blues scene including William Clarke, James Harman, and even Screamin' Jay Hawkins.  He's just pretty much hanging out at the jams and checking out the scene right now, but look for him to make some waves once he gets a band together.  12/8

KM Williams has self-released his new CD "Country Roads, Street Corners & Church Houses".  12/8

Southwest Blues has announced they are cutting back to 11 issues a year (no more January issue) and Patti Coghill will be leaving the magazine.  Support 'em!  Buy an ad!    12/1/04

JW Jones will be visiting from Ottawa in December.  He has gigs at the Bone and Deep Ellum Blues.  12/1/04

Paul Byrd will be in the studio in early 2005 to cut his new CD.  11/15

Hash Brown has recently been in Austin recording with Bobby Rush.  11/10

Ron's Deli in Fort Worth has stopped booking bands and left several bands holding the bag with dates booked, but not honored.   No more blues at Ron's.  11/3

Stumpy's has re-opened in Arlington at 2811 W. Division, 817-275-3202.  They have a website up with their schedule.  Welcome back, Stumpy's!!  http://www.stumpysbluesbar.net/

Steve Meek, U.P. Wilson's former drummer and manager, called with this info on U.P.'s  funeral:
Saturday, October 9, 12 noon.  Strangers Rest Baptist Church, 5705 Donnelly, Fort Worth.  10/7

Hash Brown has a new Sunday jam starting October 10.  Venue is the Cottage Lounge, 3006 W. NW Highway in Dallas, 214-358-3018.  Jam times are 5-10 pm.  10/1

Steve Meek reports former Fort Worth blues stalwart U.P. Wilson passed away last night in Paris from blood poisoning resulting from an infected leg.  U.P. moved to Paris several years ago.  Here's a photo of U.P. performing his patented 1 handed playing style at the Bone in Deep Ellum.  U.P. Wilson copyright Don O.    9/23

Hash Brown's Sunday jam at Deep Ellum Blues has been cancelled.  Hash has also announced his new band will have Kevin Schermerhorn on drums and Sonny Collie on bass.

The new documentary film on KM Williams, Sanctified Boogie, will be shown at 7 pm on Friday, October 15 at Deep Ellum Blues in Dallas.

KNON completed the move to 5353 Maple Avenue with the flip of a switch at midnight on August 15.

KNON IS FINALLY MOVING!!! We're not sure exactly when, probably next month. However, we are NOT moving to Southside. As I have explained to many of you
previously, that was simply a matter of being unable to raise the
money to make it happen. We never got close to raising the $150K plus
that we needed to build out the space. Instead, we are moving into a
nice office building at 5353 Maple Avenue. Compared to the beat up
old house on San Jacinto, it is the Taj Mahal. No pigeons dancing on
the window air conditioner. No roaches running up the walls. An
actual paved parking lot. Plus a nicer bigger studio and newer
equipment donated by KZPS and KVIL. It is simply amazing. All we're
waiting on is the phone line from SBC to be set up and tested, a few
tweaks on our newer board, and some cabinet buildouts. The move
should take place sometime AFTER pledge drive.

This pledge drive we will have a ONE TIME special t-shirt premium with
the old house on the front. As always, your favorite broke-ass
blues-playing radio station needs your help to keep going, so please
send us a few bucks the next couple of weeks during pledge drive if
you can.

I have set up a new domain name website at bluesdfw.com.  The purpose of the site is to create a short, easy to remember URL so we can help new folks find the info they need on  the North Texas blues scene.  I have linked the NTB chat group, Jack's soul blues site, Southwest Blues magazine, and this site from the new site.  I have no plans to move this site over there.  It will stay right here for the forseeable future.  It is just meant to be a portal or gateway to the main sources of information on the DFW blues scene.  Please help spread the word about bluesdfw.com.   http://bluesdfw.com/     6/23

From the Dallas Public Library:
"Main Street's Paved in Gold, Elm Street's Paved in Brass: Early Dallas
Blues from the 1920s and 1930s"

The birth of recorded Blues can be traced to Hart Wand's Dallas Blues, published in 1912 and the first Blues song to be scored and copyrighted. The
exhibit explores the growth of Deep Ellum as a railroad and commercial center, and the resulting entertainment district. This entertainment
district gave rise to a host of Blues musicians and performers, including such legends as Blind Lemon Jefferson, Alex Moore, and Robert Johnson, whose
1937 Dallas recordings were "found" and popularized by 1960s rock musicians, such as Led Zeppelin and Eric Clapton. The exhibit illustrates the theme
that the place of Dallas is intimately linked to the music and the music is intimately linked to the place.

The exhibit, curated by Bob Reitz, opens on April 27, 2003, with a reception at 2:00 p.m. The reception includes a Blues-inspired poetry reading by the
curator and a live performance of Dallas Blues by KM Williams. Also, author Dr. Robert Uzzel will speak and autograph his new book Blind Lemon
Jefferson: His Life, His Death, His Legacy (Austin: Eakin Press, 2002). The exhibit and reception are sponsored by the Texas/Dallas History & Archives
Division of the Dallas Public Library. The exhibit is located on the 7th floor reading room of the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library. The exhibit and reception are free.
