Last Update 7/12/99

Latest info from Richard Chalk on the Curly Barefoot Miller Memorial Benefit on Sunday July 18.
"We'll be selling 50 CDs that I made special of all the tracks we released of Curly over the years, including Live At The Floz in Berlin. 12 tunes total with only one repeat, Mardi Gras. There is the studio version as well as the live version of this one. They'll be numbered (1-50) and that is all there will be. A collectors item - $15 each. Also a friend is making in 24 comemorative T-shirts of Curly on the front, place and detail, and a list of most all the musicians who will perform on the back. $15 for these as well. We need about $2300 to finish paying for the funeral ($1200 short still) and $1200 to have a service and inter him in New Orleans. IF we get 200 people at the show, and sell all 50 CDs and 24 T-shirts, we'll raise $2000. Hopefully we'll get the remaining $300 needed by passing the hat periodically. If we collect more, great. It will ALL go to Barefoot's family. Actually, ANYTHING over the $1200 we need to pay the Sandra Clark Funeral Home goes to the family." 7/12

Shane Hall will be returning to KNON in the Thursday blues slot beginning May 13. Shane previously did a blues show for about 5 years on Wednesday nights on KNON.

We did a dry run of my new internet only blues show last night at J&J. It was a lot of fun. We'll be doing it for real beginning Thursday, April 22 with plans to upload to Bluestown.com after the second show on April 29. Come on out and say "hey" and play harass the DJ. 7 pm to 10 pm on Thursdays at J&J. 4/16

I will soon be doing an internet blues show direct from J&J Blues Bar in Fort Worth. It will be much like my KNON radio show only this is a separate, stand alone show not associated in any way with KNON. Yes, I will still be doing my Friday radio show, also. I'll be playing the latest CDs, old LPs, 45's, and occasionally, live recordings made at J&J Blues Bar. To start with, the show will be recorded each Thursday from 7 to 10 pm and will be uploaded to Bluestown.com. They will tack together two weeks worth of shows to make a 6 hour blues broadcast at Bluestown.com. Eventually, we will add interviews, contests, a chat room, and will be streaming live to Bluestown.com. Those of you in the DFW area are invited to come out and join the fun, LIVE on Thursday nights at J&J from 7 to 10 pm. No cover before 8:30 pm. We are starting THIS Thursday April 15, so come on out and drown your tax day sorrows! The show will probably not be up on Bluestown.com until the weekend of April 24. 4/11

According to Trey Flewellen, Jim Suhler will sign with Bullseye and record a new CD this summer for release next January. The recent live recording with Alan Haynes will be released on Topcat. 4/2

Nothing to do with blues, but I have found a neat FREE dialup internet connection. Check it out at NetZero.com. They bombard you with advertising banners and pop-ups, their set-up is a pain (I had to re-install my dial-up config), you can not currently access newsgroups, but hey, it is FREE! No more $19 a month for internet access! They have several Dallas and Fort Worth connection numbers. Makes for a very nice alternate site when your provider is down (like mine sometimes is) or is busy (like mine sometimes is). So far I have had no access problems, even at peak times, and connections have been fast, 45K or so on my 56 k modem. 3/30

NEW!!! Mirror site! After the recent problems here at Chrysalis.org I have decided to open a mirror site. Basically, that just means a copy of this site at another location. Joey Love turned me on to Xoom.com which offers free 11 meg (!!) sites in return for bothering me (but not the visitors) with e-mail ads. Sounded like a fair deal to me. I will be updating both sites equally. This means you will have two places to see this site which should help avoid the withdrawl symptoms some folks reportedly suffered when Chrysalis went missing for over 7 days. I may just move the whole site there permanently. Please let me know about any problems you have accessing this site on Chrysalis.org or on xoom.com. The mirror is up and running. Please bookmark NOW, just in case Chrysalis takes another unexpected nosedive! Don O.'s Dallas Fort Worth Blues Page mirror site 1/17

Tha band will be there, but keyboard player Harry James Bright will probably front the combo while Bob's in Europe. 1/16

Sorry the site has been down a couple of days. It only happens a few times each year. When it does, send an e-mail to garry.grosse@chrysalis.org and tell him the chrysalis web pages are down. He's the sysop who fixes it. If you are a DFW blues junkie, put this info somewhere you can find it for the next outtage. It will be back up faster if you go direct to the source rather than sending me an e-mail, which I have to receive, then write to Garry.

A huge THANK YOU to all the musicians and everyone who came out to the big KNON blues and food benefit for Sunday, December 6. The show was a big success and raised over $1700 to support blues programming on KNON. For those of you who were not there you missed some great seafood from Daddy Jack's plus Gregg Smith backed by Pat Boyack, Mark LaRoque, Shawn Ferris, William Hippie Harris, Hal Harris, J.D. Hill, and special surprise guest Lucky Peterson. Then Mike Morgan, Shawn Pittman, and Dirk Cordes threw down some serious Elmore James and Hound Dog Taylor for two hours. Too much fun! We will do it again sometime!

Work is well underway on the KNON Texas Blues Radio, Volume 2, compilation CD. We have signed contracts back from Jake Crawford, Sumter Bruton, Kenny Kay, Cookie McGee, Joe Jonas, Dru Webber, James Hinkle, Randy McAllister, Jim Suhler, Pat Boyack, Mike Morgan, and Joey Love. We are waiting on clearances for a few more tracks before we can master and go to press. Due to very slow sales of the KNON country and Hip Hop CDs, we will probably delay release of the new blues CD to February. Sorry!

R.L. Griffin is now doing the 7-10 pm slot and Ernie Johnson is now in the 10 pm to midnight slot, Monday through Friday, on KKDA 730 AM. They are both doing great shows with lots of good blues (about 50%). Check 'em out!

The Keys Lounge in Southwest Fort Worth now has a website at: http://members.theglobe.com/thomore/default.html     The Keys Website

Marc Wilson will be leaving Mike Morgan and the Crawl in January. No problems between the band members, it's just that Marc has been in the band for 9 years and is ready to do something different. He actually has the most seniority in the current band, which has survived a hiatus by both Morgan and McBee. They'll have a tough time finding a drummer as good as Marc Wilson. Marc did say, whoever he ends up playing with, he will be staying in Dallas. They've just bought a house.

Josh Davis reports John Garza is now playing with his band. He has a new CD in the can and they are just waiting for Hash Brown to finish the liner notes.

Correction: Bobby Patterson's radio show is now airing on KKDA 730 AM from 10 am to noon, Monday through Saturday. Cindy B still has Noon to 3 pm and Millie Jackson is on 3 to 6 pm. R.L. Griffin, Ernie Johnson, and Johnnie Taylor are still "coming soon".

Randy McAllister's new CD for JSP, "Grease, Grit, Dirt, and Spit," is out and it's a good 'un. Randy, Andrew "Jr. Boy" Jones, and Cookie McGee have just returned from a month long tour in Europe.

Wes Williams reports by e-mail:
Some of us in town have put together a Blues Jam for players 18 years old and younger. This is open to guitar, bass, keyboard (we have a Hammond B-3 set-up), horn players and drummers. There are many good young players in the area that do not have a place to 'hone' their skills. We were fortunate enough to obtain the Southside Preservation Hall which has a great room and stage. We are charging a $5.00 cover of which 100% goes to further restoration of the Preservation Hall. All of our work is voluntary, including the rhythm section. The show is Friday, August 21st from 7-11 pm and our plan is to have one the third Friday of every month. We had a trial run last month that went quite well. The address is: 1519 Lipscomb Street, Fort Worth, 76104. Lipscomb Street is near historic Magnolia Street which is south of downtown. Ample parking is in the rear of the building. If anyone needs information, they may call 817-924-9565, ext. 3.

Shame Shame now has their own website with calendar at:    http://www.weblace.com/shameshame

Kelly Hatcher now has a website at: http://visualideas.com/kth/index.html,

Bnois King dropped me a note to say he and Smokin' Joe Kubek are heading to Montevideo, Uruguay in December!

Bob Kirkpatrick has a new self-released CD. Apparantly, on his last tour of Europe, someone taped one of the live shows then had some CDs pressed for sale. The inserts are poor photocopies. Obviously produced on the cheap. The music is a good representation of Bob's live show. 14 tracks, 72 minutes, with a mix of blues, ballads, originals, and covers. Pat Boyack called to say he has not changed the name of his band. I can't imagine what threw me off, the fact he has repainted his amp case with "Pat Boyack's R&B Revue" or the fact they were announcing themselves from the stage with that name. Silly me. My apologies, Pat. Anyway, Boyack says he has more or less shut down The Prowlers and he is going to be working for awhile in a rock band to generate a more steady income. His wife is pregnant with their first child and he is going to be trying to maximize income for awhile. Spencer Thomas has departed to try his own thing.
