The turn out at the Dallas Blues Festival (formerly known as the Bedford Blues Festival of Dallas) last weekend was simply pathetic. Looked like less than 200 people on Friday and Sunday nights, the two nights I was there. The City of Bedford Festival drew better on Saturday night, but way less than I have seen in the past. This is the 4th straight time that "funny business" has occurred on Sonny Rhodes dates here in DFW. I have e-mailed the Blue Cat and asked for confirmation of their date with Sonny on 8/24, but at this point, it seems unlikely he will appear. 8/18

This confusion came about when the city of Bedford fired MEI as their festival promoter after they already had plans underway for this year's fest. The Fort Worth Star Telegram reports Main Events International, who has run the Bedford Blues Festival for the past 5 years, has been dropped from the festival by the Bedford city council. MEI has announced they plan to hold their own blues festival around the same date. The city of Bedford will now produce their own festival. MEI owns the rights to the name Bedford Blues Festival so this will be an interesting soap opera to watch. The good thing is we may end up with 2 local blues fests in September instead of one! Stay tuned. 2/26
